A lone gunman, named by police as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, is reported to have opened fire on people attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival at Vegas's Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino on Sunday night.

It is reported that Paddock had fired at concert goers from the window of a nearby hotel as they watched Jason Aldean perform. Las Vegas sheriff Joe Lombardo confirmed that he killed himself prior to their entry to his hotel room.

Authorities were looking for a companion of the shooter, identified as Marilou Danley, as well as two vehicles, a Hyundai Tucson with Nevada license plate 114B40 and a Chrysler Pacifica Touring with Nevada license plate 79D401.

The death toll of at least 50 people killed makes this the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, surpassing the 49 who were killed at the Pulse nightclub in June 2016.
