In an interview with Vulture, Willow Smith, whose second album the The 1st came out in October, explained that she wished she'd focused more on her craft before jumping directly into the public with her music.

"I would have started guitar lessons when I started singing lessons," she told Vulture, when asked what she would have done differently with the iconic pop song. "And I would have not shown my face. I probably wouldn’t have made music at first. I would’ve trained and trained and became a savant first, and then I would’ve allowed myself into the public eye."

The 17-year-old also says that she learned to play the guitar after listening to Michael Cera's True That.

"It’s so insane," she said. "He’s not even — he’s definitely a musician, but he doesn’t put himself out as a musician. So the fact that he was the one who inspired me to start playing is just so random. I can’t believe it."
