Grimes has apologized after criticizing her label 4AD in an Instagram post. The artist shared an update on her forthcoming album on Saturday night, February 24, where she wrote that she was “back in the studio making a million beats.”

In a subsequently deleted part of the caption, Billboard notes that she added the beats were for “one final album for my shit label and then my first album on a label of my choosing which im crazy stoked about eeeee. or i might go fully independent, researching options. the second one will be extreme darkness and chaos, the first will be highly collaborative and most glorious light.”

Grimes subsequently apologized for calling her label “shit” and spreading “bad vibes.”

This is not the first time that Grimes has been critical of industry politics this year. Having recently suggested she was close to releasing new music she then subsequently stated that plan had been halted, blaming the “trash music industry.”

In August last year Grimes gave a brief update on the progress of her new music. The Canadian artist said she was venturing into "unexplored sonic landscapes" as she writes new music.
