Metro Boomin says he’s “retired from rap”

According to Instagram.

April 13, 2018

Metro Boomin posted an Instagram story announcing his retirement from rap, Complex reports. In the post, shared yesterday and captured by HIP HOP FACTS, the producer and rapper is photographed two bags of chips on his lap, seemingly on a private jet. The caption reads "Retired from rap." He also purged his Instagram of non-stories and changed his to bio to "Retired from rap," though a few hours ago it reportedly read "Retired record producer/DJ."

No further details have been confirmed, but the surprising announcement follows a quiet few months after a year of changes for Metro Boomin. In June, he announced the launch of his own label, Boominati Worldwide, formed in partnership with Republic Records and Universal Music Group. A few months later, he tweeted a series of complaints about Atlantic Records, later noting that the tweets were "directed at Mike Caren and the APG division who deals directly with producers and songwriters."

"It is just so demeaning to take advantage of hungry artists/producers/writers who put their whole life into their music just 4 u to rob them," he wrote in October.

Elsewhere on social media, Metro Boomin has been mostly quiet since last year, last tweeting his oft-repeated "Thank God for the day!" on December 28, with nothing following it as of now. That tweet followed the release of Double or Nothing, his project with Big Sean. As Complex points out, he's also on board to play several festivals through July, which have yet to be cancelled.
