Please reboot Silent Library already

A gameshow that’s perfect for the internet in 2018.

April 24, 2018

I'm a fan of things that are simple and fun, and so Silent Library, which aired on MTV from 2009 to 2012, is pretty much a perfect TV show in my eyes. For those who never saw it, the game show, based off a segment from the Japanese hit variety show Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!!, features a group of friends trying to win money by staying quiet during a series of bizarre challenges. A clip of the show, embedded above, reminded me of it and I have to agree that it deserves a comeback.

If not for TV, a new version of the show would certainly feel at home on Facebook, where media companies like Super Deluxe produce thousands of hours of content with equally absurd concepts like watching two people get high and build furniture. If we have to put up with multiple seasons of zombified Full House and the new Roseanne's not-so-subtle Trumpism, then we all should be able to take in the delight of watching someone try not to laugh in a library when that's all they want to do. Watch the clip above and you'll wish there was a lot more Silent Library to enjoy.
