Bring iCarly to Brazil

The only good thing about Kanye West’s tweets.

April 25, 2018

Kanye West's return to Twitter has me feeling pretty bummed out about the state of the internet. His casual public embrace of Candice Owens amongst other things is just another reminder that maybe giving everyone in the world a platform isn't such a great idea. While I still think that's true, the replies to Kanye's tweets, specifically the heavily favorited ones from @iCarly312, fills me with a strange sense of hope.

The account, called iCarly Brasil, appears to be run by an anonymous Brazilian in Guarulhos who spends all day tweeting at famous people and brands for their support in the accounts mission: to get iCarly to visit Brazil. In a DM to me, the account clarified that they don't just want the star of the show, Miranda Cosgrove, to come, they want the entire cast to come to their country. "We love everyone on the show," they said. "Epecially Gibby, Spencer, Carly, Sam and Freddie"

The account frequently says that there are 9 billion Brazilian fans who need this to happen immediately. These nine billion people also would like Kanye to collab with iCarly, a starring role in Star Wars for iCarly, and a headlining iCarly set at Lollapalooza Brazil 2019. Second to a vist, they really, really want a HD reissue of the 2009 iCarly video game on every major video game console.

When asked to explain just what their whole thing was about, they happily complied. "We are super fans from iCarly since 2007," they said. "iCarly is one of the most popular tv shows in Brazil and it still airs on multiple channels here. It’s our dream to have iCarly in Brazil because they never visited us, so we created this account to request iCarly at the Rock in Rio Festival, but now we ask for iCarly on other festivals in Brazil too, like Lollapalooza. We are always tweeting rich celebrities to help us because they have a lot of money and they can hire an iCarly concert in our country. Some celebrities already agreed to help us, like the singer Jacob Whitesides.

Yes, their tweets are kind of demonic and must be slightly alarming for Cosgrove, but the account's tweets remind me that the internet can be used for positive change of singular goals. No, there's not 9 billion Brazillian fans of iCarly, but as long as there's one @iCarly312, there might as well be.
