Scott Hutchinson, lead singer of Frightened Rabbit, is dead at 36

His family has released a statement about his death.

Scott Hutchinson, leader singer of the Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit, was found dead on Thursday, after being publicly reported as missing on Wednesday. He was 36.

A statement released by his family on Friday reads "we are utterly devastated with the tragic loss of our beloved Scott. Despite his disappearance, and the recent concerns over his mental health, we had all remained positive and hopeful that he would walk back through the door, having taken some time away to compose himself."

“Depression is a horrendous illness that does not give you any alert or indication as to when it will take hold of you,” a statement continues. “Scott battled bravely with his own issues for many years and we are immensely proud of him for being so open with his struggles. His willingness to discuss these matters in the public domain undoubtedly raised awareness of mental health issues and gave others confidence and belief to discuss their own issues.”

Frightened Rabbit also released a statement, seen below. The band was originally a solo project from Hutchinson formed in 2003, and then grew into a group of five, including Hutchinson's brother. They released five studio albums. the latest coming out in 2016. In February, they embarked on a tour.

On social media, friends and fans are also sharing their own tributes to the Hutchinson.
