Apple Music has 50 million registered users, CEO Tim Cook claimed in an interview with Bloomberg TV on Tuesday.

That figure is somewhat boosted by Cook's inclusion of free trials in addition to paid subscriptions. In April Apple reported 40 million paying users. This would suggest that Apple Music has attracted 2 million users on a free trial in the past month.

Earlier this year it was reported that Apple Music is growing at over twice the rate of Spotify. As of March 2018 Apple Music's U.S. subscribers were increasing by 5 percent per month, versus Spotify's 2 percent. However, Spotify is still far ahead of Apple Music in terms of users with the streaming company claiming 75m users in its first earnings report as a public company earlier this month.
