Jamaican DJ Yaadcore has been spreading reggae love around the world for several years now, and in several capacities. He’s the founder of the now-global Dubwise Jamaica party, releases yearly Reggae Aroma mixes featuring the year’s best reggae tracks, and is the official DJ for Protoje. And as of last month, he’s officially delved into making tracks of his own. “No Fenke Fenke” is the first taste of original production from Yaadcore — a real positive, rub-a-dub-style track featuring Shanique Marie and Kabaka Pyramid that revives an old Jamaican phrase that means “no foolishness or anything of low quality,” in the DJs own words.

To celebrate this release, Yaadcore has shared a brand new, summer-ready FADER Mix, featuring 34 minutes of reggae heat spanning classic dubplates and fresher voices on the scene like Natural High. Time to sit out on your stoop, succumb to the heat, and press play on this sunny and solid, reggae-heavy mix. Listen to it below, and read on for a few words from the DJ himself the a full tracklist.

What do you imagine people doing while listening to this mix?
I imagine people wanting to hold a good vibe with reggae music, and [finding out] what's new on the reggae scene.

Is there a track in particular that stands out? Why?

Yes. "No Fenke Fenke" by myself featuring Shanique Marie and Kabaka Pyramid stands out not only because it is my first original production, but the organic feedback has been phenomenal. I put it out on a mixtape last year, and ever since people have been begging me to release it officially. Now that it's out, the people [have been] very receptive to the vibes. The sounds bridge the gap with the old-school essence as well as the freshness of today. And no fenke fenke, a phrase that means no foolishness or anything of low quality, has been revived!

What music or artists do you turn to for inspiration when you're working on projects of your own?

For inspiration I turn to Mikey Dread all day. He is my favorite! He was the first reggae DJ on the Jamaican airwaves, as well as a top artist and producer. RIP, Mikey Dread!
