Listen to Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner’s Big Red Machine
Bon Iver and The National members unite for new side project.
In the grand scheme of artist-owned music services it's unclear where PEOPLE, the open-access streaming platform from Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner, will wind up. The National and Bon Iver members are unlikely to be aiming for JAY-Z and Tidal levels of commercial dominance, though worries about a Neil Young/Pono-style vanity project can never be dismissed in these ventures. The pair have been using PEOPLE to share music from their collaborative project Big Red Machine, whose debut album is released across all streaming services today.
The album is an experimental electronic soul record, featuring Auto-tuned vocals from both members plus appearances from Phoebe Bridgers plus members of Arcade Fire and the Staves. Fans of Bon Iver’s previous album 22, A Million will feel immediately at home. Check out Big Red Machine below.
