Watch Neil Frances’s “Ask Me Anything”

Sweet, soft pop.

September 13, 2018

L.A. duo Neil Frances really realize their whole vibe in this video for “Ask Me Anything,” from the band’s recent Took A While EP. The video was shot, like everything now, on Super 8 and directed by Kate Biel and Elliott Watson, who create work together under the name KEWB. “When KEWB came to us initially with the idea, we knew that the visual elements would be perfectly suited to the song,” the band said over email. “We hope that you find the finished product to be as beautiful and provocative as we do.”

Not a lot is known about the group — it’s been reported they first met in 2012, then reconnected some years later; their earlier lyrics were intended to be sung by a woman vocalist before the guys did it themselves. Nostalgic to just the right degree, it makes me think of the Clairo of Girls or something. It’s very sweet. I feel like people missed the EP, so grab it now and catch them on tour throughout the month of September.
