As one year comes to a close the music industry starts to looking to the future and making predictions regarding the artists expected to make waves going forward. BBC Sound has a pretty good record of earmarking rising stars and shared its latest longlist on Monday morning.
The ten artists on the 2019 longlist include Catalan singer Rosalía, British rappers Octavian, Flohio and Slowthai, plus "Boo'd Up" singer Ella Mai and soul artist Mahalia. The list is rounded out by pop stars King Princess and Grace Carter, singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy, and indie band Sea Girls.
The annual list is voted for by 136 critics, broadcasters and DJs, including former nominees Ellie Goulding and Stormzy.
Past winners includes Adele, Sam Smith, Years & Years, and Haim. The 2018 list included Rex Orange County, Billie Eilish, and Pale Waves, alongside eventual winner Sigrid.
