The longstanding FADER Mix series presents new, exclusive DJ mixes from our favorite artists and producers.

Los Angeles-via-Liverpool singer and producer SG Lewis has made name for himself with his smokey, ambient dance tunes, having collaborated with artists like Clairo, Channel Tres, and AlunaGeorge and now making his way through the festival circuit; He played San Diego's dance festival, CRSSD, this past weekend, which I'm sure was a pretty great place to experience his late-summer-feeling tunes. For his FADER Mix, though, Lewis pivots to sounds more upbeat and unrestrained, mixing 20 minutes of disco, and mood-lifting gospel. From the hair-raising benedictions of Alan Dixon's Bless Me Today, to the smooth, lite-raunch of Channel Tres' "Sexy Black Timberlake," Lewis delivers a quick-and-easy hit of energy — recommended to be consumed while dancing.

Where are you right now? Please describe your surroundings.

I’m in Mexico City on a rooftop drinking tequila. Crazy P's "Heartbreaker" is playing and the sun is setting. Pretty perfect actually!

Tell us a bit about this mix. What do you imagine people doing while listening to it?

This is a really quick mix of tracks I’ve been playing out a lot over the summer. There’s some gospel, some disco edits, and some of my own productions. I would imagine someone cooking breakfast in their underwear dancing around the kitchen to this on a sunny Sunday.

What's something important you've learned through producing for yourself/with others, that you feel has made you grow as an artist?

I used to put so much pressure on myself in the studio to deliver something special every time, and would beat myself up over it if I didn’t get anything amazing that day. Over the years, I’ve realised those special ideas kind of arrive from some other place, and a lot of the time you can’t force them. You’ve just gotta put the time in in the studio to maximize your chances of catching them.

Clairo is a close friend and collaborator of yours — do you have a favorite memory of a session with her?

I think the night we wrote "Throwaway" is a really fond memory. The session began as more of a life therapy session - we were just talking about some personal shit that was going on, and I think the conversation kind of laid the foundations mood-wise for "Throwaway" to happen as quickly as it did. She’s a freak talent and such a pleasure to work with, love her.

Who are some artists that make you feel excited about music right now?

Park Hye Jin is in heavy rotation right now. I love everything I’ve heard from her. I’m excited to see what Koffee does next, I feel like she has the world at her feet. Celeste has something really special too. But there’s so much to be excited about right now.
