The singer-songwriter also released a version of the country classic “If You Could Touch Her at All.”

November 22, 2019

Bill Callahan has released a pair of covers, one of which is Leonard Cohen’s famously majestic “So Long, Marianne.” The Cohen cover is the B-side to the single release, which is “If You Could Touch Her at All,” a song originally written by Lee Clayton for Willie Nelson. “So Long, Marianne” had previously been included in the 2012 compilation The Songs of Leonard Cohen Covered , though it had not been previously available on streaming platforms. The release comes the same week as a new posthumous Leonard Cohen album, Thanks for the Dance. In June, Callahan released his first studio album in five years, Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest.
