South London rapper Deema lays his heart on the line with “Maddie”

Check out a romantic throwback jam backed by fellow MC Kish!

South London rapper Deema first emerged a few years back alongside Novelist and Elf Kid as a member of Lewisham grime collective The Square; a group whose youthful energy breathed life into everything from Amerie samples to their local McDonalds. Since then Deema's quietly been honing his craft, releasing loose tracks that showcase his confident flow and laid back vibe.

Today he drops "Maddie," in which he positions himself as a young Romeo out to capture the heart of a girl "rocking two boots made for strutting." Luxuriating on a boom-bap beat, Deema is joined by fellow south Londoner Kish!, whose 2018 single "Benzo!" received love from Frank Ocean via his blonded show on Beats 1.

Speaking to The FADER via email, Deema recalled the serendipitous making of the song: “Before we’d even spoken I had written the first few lines: “This ting called Maddie”. So when Felix played us the beat and said it was called 'Maddie,' I thought, “This must’ve been meant to be.”
