Lady Gaga opens up about sexual assault and PTSD in new interview with Oprah

Oprah Winfrey is embarking on her first speaking tour in five years, and at her first stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she spoke to a very special guest: Lady Gaga. As Rolling Stone points out, Gaga and Oprah discussed a handful of sensitive and personal topics over the course of an hour, including the rumors of Gaga’s relationship with her Star Is Born co-star Bradley Cooper, her struggle with chronic illness fibromyalgia, mental health, and the PTSD she experienced after being raped at age 19.

On mental health, she told Oprah “Mental health is a medical condition, it should be treated as a medical condition. It should not be ignored.” On the same subject, she discussed the importance of dealing with trauma, saying “I developed PTSD as a result of being raped and not processing that trauma.” Watch the full discussion above.
