D Flowers says he represents two things: poverty, and what it takes to overcome poverty and its associated obstacles. That’s a powerful statement of identity, one that says a lot about the young Houston native. One of the first artists signed to Texan indie Stomp Down, Flowers has done a lot in the past two years, dropping singles “Life About” and “O DAWG,” and appearing on Maxo Kream’s Punken highlight “Go.” Today, he takes a step further, releasing his new single “Sweat In My Eyes.” A song about struggle and perspective, it highlights Flowers’ willingness to experiment with, and expand upon, his own style.

“‘Sweat in My Eyes’ represents the passion, perseverance and pain I had to build inside of me to see my dreams come to reality, now that I’ve seen a glimpse of what we can be,” Flowers tells The FADER of the song via email. “It’s still sweat in between my vision that represents how hard I had to work to see this side of life, as well as what I’m willing to give to get where we are going... Every little piece of light in life is beautiful."
