The National’s Matt Berninger announces debut solo album Serpentine Prison

It’s out on October 2.

Matt Berninger, the lead singer of Cincinnati indie rock band The National, has announced his debut solo album. Serpentine Prison is due out on October 2 via Book Records, a new label founded by Berninger and Booker T. Jones, who produced the album in full. The first single from Serpentine Prison is its title track, streaming above with an appropriately muted video.

The National released their latest album, I Am Easy To Find, a year ago this week. Jones, for his part, has been busy for over half a century, fronting Booker T. and the M.G.'s and working with everyone from Otis Redding to Neil Young.
