Arca first emerged in the public eye with the Stretch series, a pair of EPs showcasing a producer resembling an alien weaned on golden-age Timbaland. Her sound only deepened as more albums and mixtapes were released through the years, though her sound became more immediately personal with 2017's Arca, a project that saw her debut a trembling and sonorous vocal style.
"Madre," the title track from Arca's just-released maxi-single, continues that journey with experimental producer and cellist Oliver Coates riding shotgun. A magician in his own right, Coates' densely textured melodies are soft downy features to help Arca's voice soar to new emotional heights. Check out the beautiful aquatic video for the song above, directed by Aron Sanchez.
"this piece is one i’ve been learning how to love since the day it poured out of me," Arca wrote of the Madre maxi-single on Instagram. "4 tracks, one featuring @ollycoates, each a refraction of the light and shadow of motherhood in each of us. From a pulsing heart breathing cosmos, e."
