How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? is the follow-up to Big Red Machine's self-titled 2018 debut. Swift appears on two of the album's tracks, "Renegade" and "Birch." A press release states that she recorded her vocals at her own Kitty Committee Studio in Los Angeles in March 2021, the same week folklore was named Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Other guests due to appear on the album include Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Sharon Van Etten, and Anaïs Mitchell. Swift followed folklore with a second 2020 album, evermore. More recently she has embarked on the task of re-recording her early albums as she battles industry mogul Scooter Braun for control over her music. The 2021 version of Fearless (originally released in 2008) dropped in April, with an updated Red due in November.
