Perfume Genius shares “deathbed-y” cover of “I Will Survive”
The cover comes with a video comprised of an old Bowflex commercial and forest fire footage.

Gloria Gaynor's iconic disco hit "I Will Survive" is transformed into a haunting waltz courtesy of a new cover by Perfume Genius. Mike Hadreas explained in the latest edition of his Substack newsletter that he recorded the cover for a commercial project that didn't come to fruition. Check it out below. Hadreas recently spoke to The FADER about his newsletter as part of The FADER Interview podcast.
Describing the style of his version of the song, Hadreas wrote: “I suppose the cover is a little deathbed-y, I was very serious that day, but i like how it turned out. In particular the last moment… i might stretch that in to something new.”
Perfume Genius released Set My Heart On Fire Immediately in 2020. A remix album, featuring contributions from AG Cook, Katie Dey, and Danny L Harle among others, arrived earlier this year. A Perfume Genius tour is scheduled for later this year.
