NPC are a group with a difference. Created by Grimes and Chris Lake, the so-called "A.I. girl group" have infinite members, according to a press release, with members able to be voted in or out. The only constant member will be the baby Warnymph. The debut NPC single "A Drug From God" is streaming now and can be heard below.
The press information for NPC describes the group as "a vehicle for experimentation in new technologies as they become available such as generative characters and music, diff types of animation, ai assisted art as well as spiritual technology." This set-up allows Grimes to "create as other people in order to reduce the psychic pain of being in the public eye."
Chris Lake is the founder of Black Book Records and an electronic producer who has previously worked with Sia, Deadmau5, and Steve Aoki among others. Grimes' most recent album Miss Anthropocene arrived in 2020.
