Can you ever make a truly fresh start? That's the question at the heart of Léa Sen's fantastic debut single. Released today via Partisan Records, "Hyasynth" sees the 22-year-old songwriter and producer utilise silky guitars and delicate synth bubbles as a bed for her musings on a life left behind in one city and the excitement of moving on in a new location.

Sen, who last year appeared on Joy Orbison's engrossing album Still Slipping, Vol. 1, has also shared a video for the song. Starting out with a triptych of images, the video follows the artist as she moves around her home, lighting joss sticks, doing her make up, and parting with friends. Despite the calm surroundings she never truly feels in the moment, though, something illustrated by the end of the video when Sen packs her suitcase and leaves.

Speaking to The FADER via email, Sen said: “‘Hyasynth’ is about my journey from my home in Cergy in the outskirts of Paris to London. I had to accept all the past mistakes I’ve made back home that I couldn’t go back to. I had to accept and move on. In a way, I ran away from certain things. In another way I also made the first step into growing into the person I really wanted to be. Sometimes I feel like my past mistakes haunt me, that’s what I felt making this song. It’s about wanting to grow and handle life with more wisdom.”
