One of the most fun and instantly replayable tracks to come out of the ever-exciting U.K. club world last year was "Blackpool Boulevard" by Barry Can't Swim and Anish Kumar. That track tapped into the propulsive energy of Northern Soul music and the kinetic movement of its devotees in a way that felt nostalgic, yet future-facing. Kumar is back today with a similarly energetic and enticing solo cut. "Hummingbird," which Kumar debuted at Dialled In, a London festival celebrating the U.K.'s South Asian underground, mixes raw production styles with undeniable vocal samples, creating something that feels pristine on top with a ragged edge that keeps things charming and tactile.

There's more to come from Kumar this year, who will also be appearing at Four Tet's huge all-day rave at London's Finsbury Park in August. In an email to The FADER Kumar said: "I have been yearning to release my own solo material and 'Hummingbird' marks the first instalment. The track came together very naturally last summer and was well received when I premiered it at Dialled In festival earlier this month."
