The Rolling Stones reportedly working on new album with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr

The Stones or The Beatles? How about both?

February 22, 2023

It's one of the longest-standing rivalries in rock history but it seems The Rolling Stones and The Beatles aren't interested in who is better, they just want to work together. Variety reports that Paul McCartney has recorded some bass parts for an upcoming Stones album while drummer Ringo Starr could follow him into the studio.

Producer Andrew Watt, whose varied credits include work with everyone from Young Thug to Miley Cyrus, is working on the new Stones album in Los Angeles. He has become a go-to collaborator for vintage rockers in recent years, producing for the likes of Eddie Vedder, Iggy Pop, and Ozzy Osbourne. Variety offers up little in the way of further details on the new Stones album besides it "nearing the mixing phase."

There hasn't been album of new Stones material since 2005's A Bigger Bang. In 2016 they released blues covers album Blue & Lonesome, their final album made prior to the death of drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away in 2021. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards told the Los Angeles Times in an interview that same year that Watts had recorded parts for a new album before his death. “Let me put it this way,” Richards said, “You haven’t heard the last of Charlie Watts.”
