Sparked by an idea to form a group in late 2019, 4am Kru emerged at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown with their debut track "King Konger." Separately, Howie and Stu had been touring in London with different bands before coming together with their love of jungle. Only three years later, 4am Kru has become one of the most exciting acts in dance music, helping spread jungle worldwide.

While the duo has been releasing Eurodance-sampled singles over the last several months, last Friday, they unleashed a track exploring jungle's darker side. "Fire Is Our Friend" begins with a sinister cackle that builds ominous oscillating synths. A villainous voice repeats "fire is our friend," becoming more and more distorted as the song progresses, while hard-blistering breakbeats guide you to the song's eerie ending.
