Pop star Bebe Rexha requireded stitches in a wound to her eye after being assaulted by a phone thrown from the crowd during a concert at New York's Pier 17 on Sunday. Rolling Stone reports that 27-year-old Nicolas Malvagna has been arrested and charged with the attack.
Footage of the assault was captured by another fan in the audience of the New York venue.
Malvagna was arrested on Monday, June 19. The New Jersey resident is reported to have admitted to the assault and, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, said "I was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny."
He has been charged with two counts of assault in the three degree; one count of harassment in the second degree; one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree; and one count of attempted assault in the third degree.
The morning after the concert, Rexha shared a selfie on Instagram showing some heavy bruising around her eye. She captioned it "I'm good," assuring her followers that she is on the road to recovery.
