Soccer Mommy, a.k.a. indie rock singer-songwriter Sophie Allison, dropped her latest album Sometimes, Forever last year. The Oneohtrix Point Never-produced album is still fresh in the memory but Allison is keeping things moving with news today of a covers EP, out next month. Its lead single, an updated take on Taylor Swift’s early-career hit “I’m Only Me When I’m With You,” is out today (August 23).
“I really wanted to cover this song because it’s one of my favorites from Taylor’s first album,” Allison says in a statement. “I listened to that record so much when I was a kid and I think it had a lot of influence on me then.”
Karaoke Night is due out on September 22 via Loma Vista. The EP will feature Soccer Mommy’s previously released version of Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up The Sun,” plus covers of songs by R.E.M., Pavement, and Slowdive. A limited edition version of the EP will be available on cassette, complete with a karaoke microphone.
