Daneshevskaya’s “Big Bird” offers up a rare sighting

Listen to a preview of the NYC songwriter’s upcoming EP, Long Is The Tunnel.

Last time we heard from Daneshevskaya a couple of years ago she was preparing to release her Bury Your Horses EP by sharing a song partly inspired by the Paranormal Activity horror franchise. Today Anna Beckerman returns with a new song and details of her follow-up EP.

Long Is The Tunnel is due out on November 10 and features "Big Bird," a song co-produced by Ruben Radlauer of Model/Actriz alongside Hayden Ticehurst and Artur Szerejko. "Big Bird" is crunchy and quaint in equal measure, with Beckerman singing about the sighting of the large winged creature in incomplete sentences that hint at trouble elsewhere. There are multiple lines she doesn't quite finish ("I can’t tell a dove from a...," "A rain cloud without a..."), seemingly acknowledging that sometimes there are no easy answers. It also opens her up return to "Big Bird"'s addictive chorus, looping it over and over.

Speaking to The FADER via email, Daneshevskaya explained that the song is "about a small moment where a bunch of people stop to look at a bird, but it’s also about how big things can seem when you’re in a smaller environment. Isabel Santos captured that in her animation, and Artur, Hayden and Ruben captured it in their production. Maddy Leshner played keys on this song and always knows how to create a world with her playing. It was a small idea when I brought it to them, but they were able to make it feel really big and immediate.”
