On Wednesday, November 15, the Manchester band was playing their second show at N.Y.C.’s Madison Square Garden when Healy criticized the Recording Academy failing to recognize a string of 2022's Being Funny in a Foreign Language, including the song “About You," which Healy said by itself “deserves a fucking Grammy.”

The frontman also said the institution didn't properly recognize two other albums, specifically 2018’s A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships and 2016’s I Like It When You Sleep, For You are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It.

“The fact we didn’t get nominated for a Grammy is a fucking outrage,” The 1975 frontman said, “And the reason people don’t say that is ’cause it’s not a very tasteful thing to say. But I’m way past tasteful.”

“Are you fucking mental?! Are they fucking mental?!," Healy asked, “Fuck off! Dickheads. What the fuck are they on about?”

However, Healy also concluded his incredulous on-stage statements by saying he wasn’t being “self-celebratory,” seeing as how he doesn’t “really care that much but it just winds me up.” Rather, he was just taking cues from his “awkward hero” Kanye West, who “separate [from] the anti-Semitism,” has an incredible amount of “self-belief.”

Healy’s comments come on the heels of the Recording Academy’s announcement of the 2024 Grammy nominees announcement. According to the Grammys website, The 1975 have previously been nominated for Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package for I Like It When You Sleep, For You are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It and Best Rock Song for “Give Yourself A Try” from A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.

The FADER has reached out to a representative for Healy and The 1975 for further comment.
