The Weeknd made a surprise appearance at the 2025 Grammys, performing his songs "Timeless" featuring Playboi Carti and "Cry For Me," both from his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow. His previously unannounced set comes four years after launching a personal boycott of the awards show over perceived snubs.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., who spoke before The Weeknd's performance, referenced their tensions in his introduction, and referred to him as "someone who's seen the work the Academy's put in." Back in 2021, the Weeknd said he would no longer submit his music for consideration over what he deemed "corruption" in the Recording Academy's "secret committees," which did not nominate his record-breaking, critically acclaimed 2020 album After Hours for a single award.
