Tommy Cash is perhaps being best known as an eccentric rapper who has worked with Charli xcx and Diplo, as well as staging a series of memorable fashion week stunts. His already storied career is set to get a new chapter after he was confirmed to be Estonia's representative at this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
Cash, who was born in the Estonian capital Tallinn, was selected following a public vote held over the weekend. He triumphed in Eesti Laul, a televised competition Estonia uses to select its Eurovision contest each year. "Espresso Macchiato" is the name of his song and, as the title suggests, it is an ode to the restorative power of coffee. Scroll down to hear the song now.
Since emerging in the 2010s, Cash has released two studio albums and collaborated with a number of high profile artists, including A.G. Cook, 100 Gecs, and Boys Noize. His most recent album, ¥€$, dropped in 2018 and features a track with the fashion designer Rick Owens. Cash has spoken about Owens being his mentor, with the pair collaborating on an NFT-based project in 2021.
Cash will now head to host country Switzerland on May 13 to compete in the Eurovision semi-final. Should he be successful he will proceed to the final, due to take place in Basel on Saturday May 17.
Estonia has won the Eurovision Song Contest just once before, when Tanel Padar, Dave Benton, and 2XL triumphed in the year 2001 with their song "Everybody."
