Kevin Parker’s latest Instagram post suggests that Tame Impala may be ready to release a new album, which would be their first in five years.
Captioned, “Been busy,” the post contained 19 photos of Parker’s daily life with family and in the studio. The last image captured a white board with a list of at least 13 unknown items, seemingly new songs. Each was marked off with check marks and the word “Done.”
Justice recently announced that Parker will be among the DJs opening on their Australia tour in December. In June, Parker shared a preview of new Tame Impala music during a DJ set at the Nitsa Club in Barcelona. “You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realize?” he said. “There’s no going back from this point on, you realize?”
It’s been five years since Tame Impala’s fourth full-length album, The Slow Rush, was released in 2020. Since then, the group has collaborated with Thundercat, released a deluxe edition of the 2020 record, and worked on songs for movie soundtracks, including the critically acclaimed Barbie. Parker was also a producer and guest musician for Dua Lipa’s 2024 album Radical Optimism, and won his first Grammy for best dance/electronic recording in 2025 for “Neverender,” a collaboration with Justice.
Not much has been said about the sound of the new album, but Parker shared his enthusiasm in a 2024 interview with The Guardian. “I’m loving how excited I am by it – for me, with Tame Impala, if I’m not feeling inspired, there’s no fucking point in doing it,” he said.
