Spotify Wrapped dropped (along with a Spotify Wrapped protest)
Spotify unveiled its annual, highly anticipated Wrapped campaign on December 3, revealing to teenagers that they were actually septuagenarians and 40-year-olds that they were secretly Gen Alphas. But on the other side of the hullabaloo, a protest was taking place by the Working Families Party, Indivisible, 50501 Movement.
The activist organizations launched Spotify Unwrapped, a series of graphics that called out the streaming giant's continued platforming of ICE recruitment advertisements and unfair artist compensation policies. Perhaps the one metric missing on Wrapped this year was how many artists Spotify managed to piss off.
Jorja Smith disputed with AI song creator HAVEN.
Jorja Smith is seeking royalties from a viral TikTok song that she and her record label, FAMM, claim was created using AI that was trained on her voice and music. In addition to the AI claims, Smith and her label are also accusing HAVEN. of stoking confusion by allowing the public to think the song was an unreleased Smith track as a marketing tactic. Read FAMM's full statement on the controversy here.
