zayALLCAPS is the blogosphere's favorite indie rapper. Last year he expanded his synthesis of West Coast hip-hop, Motown R&B, and Kanye West-style maximalism on art Pop * pop Art, which spawned a cult hit with the ultra-clean "MTV's Pimp My Ride," one of The FADER's 51 Best Songs of 2025. Now, he's back with a video for "SATURN," an album cut I'd argue is even smoother than his breakout hit.
zay lived in Los Angeles for a while, and the clip for "SATURN" will feel especially nostalgic for pre-pandemic Angelenos, one big throwback to the bygone era of cheap UberPools populated by unexpected characters. Shot by Jaydin Donte Geer, it's an intimate video, full of close-up frames that make it feel like you're riding around in the car right there with them, well suited to the song's sly melancholy. In an emailed statement, zayALLCAPS called the video, "a cinematic take on the mundanities of indie rap stardom."
When Anto The Wayward sidles into the backseat for his verse, his low baritone offers a grounded counterpoint to his host's ephemeral Autotune vocals. But he can't quite steal the show from zayALLCAPS, whose assured vocals trace out a push-pull relationship in quavering Autotune.
Fresh off a self-produced On The Radar Radio freestyle (check out that Bjork sample), 2026 seems poised to be an even bigger year for the Sacramento artist. Need more zayALLCAPS? Revisit the video for "boof" from 2024's iMessage Platinum.
