Lauryn Hill performed in honor of collaborator D'Angelo and inspiration Roberta Flack at the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards. It was Hill's first performance at the GRAMMYs since 1999.
She performed a medley of songs alongside Bilal, Raphael Saadiq, Anthony Hamilton, Leon Thomas, Lucky Daye, and Jon Batiste. Selections included "Nothing Even Matters," her duet with D'Angelo from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, accompanied by The Vanguard, as well as "Killing Me Softly With His Song" by Roberta Flack with fellow Fugees member Wyclef Jean.
The performance was part of the In Memoriam segment, which also honored Ozzy Osbourne and more with separate performances.
D'Angelo passed away at 51 in October 2025 following a private battle with cancer. Last week, the Recording Academy faced criticism after D'Angelo's son said he hadn't been invited to the tribute; the Academy said they had been unable to contact him.
Last March, Hill covered "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "Killing Me Softly with His Song" alongside Stevie Wonder and Wyclef Jean at Roberta Flack's public memorial service. You can watch that performance on YouTube.
