Olympic figure skater Alysa Liu won two gold medals in Milan last month, but she's become a burgeoning Gen Z icon for doing so on her own terms. Part of that personal flair has been her choice of program music, including ">a sick Olympic Gala skate set to "Stateside" by PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson. As it turns out, the fandom is totally mutual.
In a new Teen Vogue profile of Liu, both artists offered their admiration for the young skater and her Gala routine.
“Being a part of culture and history, like I got to be with Alysa, is way more impactful to me personally than any chart position,” Larsson said, adding that she felt proud because Liu, "looked so joyful."
Over email, PinkPantheress said Liu, "breathed a new life into the track [...] I’m so grateful for everything she’s done for the song."
Liu explains she chose the "genius song" because of Larsson's lyric, "All those years I put in for the American Dream / Is it worth all the work if you can't be here with me?" The skater said the song reflected her own feelings about attending the Olympics in Milan.
Liu also recently came out as a Molly Santana fan -- maybe we'll see her at Rolling Loud?
