New Keke Palmer music is on the way. The singer will have five new tracks as part of Boots Riley's upcoming film, I Love Boosters, out in theaters in May 22. In addition to starring in the film, Palmer recorded a five-song EP, Keke Palmer-I Love Boosters Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, that will be released on May 1 by Lakeshore Records. Ahead of that, she's dropping the first single from the EP, "2-D," today, at midnight.

Co-written with Alina Hubbard-Riley, Boots Riley's daughter, and produced by Riley himself, "2-D" plays a major role in the film, and is one of the catchiest tunes from the soundtrack. Palmer previously performed songs from the film during its SXSW premiere.

In addition to collaborating with Hubbard-Riley on "2-D," Palmer worked with the songwriter for all of the songs on the forthcoming project. The EP is an extension of Riley’s ongoing partnership with Tune Yards (Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner), who scored I Love Boosters.

I Love Boosters is Riley's first film foray since 2018's Sorry To Bother You. The film stars Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Lakeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore. It centers around a group of shoplifters who get caught up in the orbit of a "cutthroat fashion maven," and like his previous films, is expected to explore themes of class, capitalism, labor, and identity.
