Like much of The Femcels’s music, “She Seems Kind Of Stupid” can feel a bit lyrically inscrutable. Turton’s verses are impressionistic and hazy, while bandmate Rowan Please traces out a hazy vignette of a girl who “wears Wellies in the sun” falling head over heels for a guy who’s the Ted Hughes to her Sylvia Plath. There’s brash energy and an undercurrent of wistful desire, but thematic whiplash is all part of the fun for The Femcels.

What makes all of that work is how sonically immediate “She Seems Kind Of Stupid” feels. Although I Have to Get Hotter cribs influences from across the genre spectrum, more experimental tracks like “Monster In You” and “Not ur friend” are offset by tracks like “I’m So Fat” and “She Seems Kind of Stupid.” On these more digestible songs, Rowan, Gabriella, and collaborators Ike Clateman and Leo Fincham show off their sharp songwriting instincts, crafting hyperactive collages that seamlessly incorporate lo-fi synths, chiptune toplines, and vocals that pivot from ASMR stagewhisper to punky chants. Who cares if you know what their lyrics mean – The Femcels know how to get the people going.

The Femcels were set to play shows in North America this month, including an appearance at this year's Frost Fest, but have been forced to postpone due to visa issues. They currently hope to play shows in Los Angeles and New York in September.

London duo The Femcels just dropped their second-ever music video for “She Seems Kind of Stupid,” a highlight from their January album I Have to Get Hotter, one of our favorite albums of 2026 so far. Directed by Gabriel La Guardia, the clip finds the electrotwee divas on a quest for hidden treasure. Along the way, they splash through a creek, grow closer as friends, and fight off a giant CGI monster, which bandmember Gabriella Turton animated herself. Check out the full video below.
