AlphaTheta's DJ software rekordbox now works directly with SoundSwitch, inMusic's lighting automation program. The update also adds SoundSwitch support to PRO DJ LINK Bridge, AlphaTheta's app for sending track and playback data from CDJs and DJM mixers to visual production software.
The change is aimed at rooms where the DJ already handles both sound and lights. Until now, rekordbox and SoundSwitch could only share tempo through Ableton Link. The new integration happens at the application level, so SoundSwitch's full feature set is available from inside rekordbox.
SoundSwitch can analyze a rekordbox library and generate a light show for each track based on its phrasing and instrumentation. DJs can also script shows by hand, fixture by fixture. Prebuilt "Autoloops" cover unanalyzed tracks and streaming services, and saved static scenes can be triggered for specific moments. Shows play back in sync with rekordbox and respond to the faders on compatible hardware. SoundSwitch's own MIDI controllers and third-party units both work as triggers.
"SoundSwitch was built specifically for DJs, giving them the tools to expand their creativity and define their own visual space," Liam Hornby, senior product owner at SoundSwitch, said in a statement.
For DJs on club gear, PRO DJ LINK Bridge sends real-time track information from the CDJ-3000X, CDJ-3000, CDJ-1500X, DJM-V10/V10-LF, and DJM-A9 to SoundSwitch, so venues without a lighting operator can generate effects directly from the performance. On the lighting side, SoundSwitch supports consumer smart lights from Philips Hue and Nanoleaf as well as professional DMX rigs of up to two universes (1,024 channels). That range lets a DJ start with smart bulbs for a home livestream and scale up to a club installation. DMX control requires a separate interface, such as SoundSwitch's Micro DMX Interface or Control One.
Using SoundSwitch with rekordbox requires a rekordbox Creative or Professional subscription plus a separate SoundSwitch license. rekordbox 7.2.19 is available now, and PRO DJ LINK Bridge can be downloaded from AlphaTheta's support site.
