South Carolina rapper Trim has been having a very good 2026, vaulting from practically unknown to major cosigns and collaborations (Tyla, Young Thug, Monaleo, and more) in less than a year. And it doesn’t feel like a stretch to call her singles this year almost inescapable. “BOAT,” “Coconut Water,” “Nobody,” and “Get Hit” each hit a new level of notoriety for the burgeoning star. New loosie “CAKEY” isn’t quite as addictive, but it’s a tantalizing morsel of things to come as Trim gears up for her long-teased debut Pass the Tiara.
Built around a chintzy synthesized horn line and skittering snares that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Rich Kidz song, “CAKEY” finds Trim at the end of her rope, decked out in Chanel and exasperated by the women hating on her: “Why the fuck is your makeup cakey?” She’s outside with a new Birkin, mocking anyone with Macy’s Star Rewards, throwing down in the kitchen so good her lover wants to leave with two plates. It’s a casual verse for Trim, but her outlandish, colorful personality is all over the track, elevating what might otherwise seem to be a boilerplate type beat.
As for who she might have rework the track, the song’s futuristic swag energy makes me think of YK Niece, who Trim previously tapped to remix “BOAT.” Revisit The FADER’s interview with Trim from February.
