Off the heels of dropping the greatest album of all time, Sophia Stel is now the subject of Greatest, The FADER's latest documentary, created in partnership with A24 Music, Audio-Technica, and Air. The Vancouver-based pop artist spent three days with director Alex Hodor-Lee for a 13-minute video that brings viewers into her bedroom studio and lively social world. It provides a peak into her life in Vancouver, where she moved after growing up in rural Vancouver Island.
The documentary captures a special moment in Stel's life and career. Shot in September 2026 — about a month before her debut album released via A24 Music quickly earned buzz for its unique blend of lyrical swagger and emotional intensity — it's a window into her insular world as everything outside of it is rapidly changing.
In the documentary, viewers can get a glimpse into Stel's free flowing and collaborative process as she creates loops and sings over them with her close band of Canadian creatives. The film also touches on Stel's passion for skateboarding, her religious and sheltered upbringing on Vancouver Island, and how music provided a space for expression and freedom in her early life.
Stel recently announced a headlining tour that will make stops across the U.S. West Coast, Europe, and Canada. Tickets are available here and exclusive merch is available here.
