Yeah, Big K.R.I.T. does sound a little like T.I. at times—he’s got that thin rasp that can bounce ably over quicker beats, or stand stoically over the more heartfelt tracks. The impressive thing about this tape is not K.R.I.T.’s ability to sound sorta similar to T.I. though—more that it’s an album’s worth of songs he wrote and produced himself. Many of of them feature the Mississippi rapper getting emotional over solemn piano-based beats, but there are also highlights like the Curren$y-featured “Glass House,” which appeared recently on Wiz Khalifa’s awesome Kush and Orange Juice (sorry Wiz—we slept on that one). Overall, it’s a promising look at a promising rapper, and it’s not going to hurt your wallet to check it out.

He sounded like a lot of the southern artists to me. Tip, Pimp C, Pill etc. But one thing’s for sure is that he game off and I might have to declare this the best mixtape of the year.
Damn, this is really, really good. One of those mixtapes that plays like a proper studio LP. “Glass House” and “Country Shit” kill, but even the downtempo numbers are really solid. Dude is especially talented if he produced the whole thing, to boot.
