Arp’s Minimal Mix for Two Turntables MP3

June 07, 2010

We've truly been enjoying Arp's recent collaboration with Anthony Moore, particularly their giddy take on what he is here dubbing "minimal," "Spinette." Minimal usually conjures images of minimal techno's tiny repetitive synths and small drum clicks. Though a more organic collection, Arp's mix does subscribe to those basic principles of little repetition, turning them into ongoing, morphing drone. It is not, however, a gloomy or pessimistic collection of minimalism. Any sourness inherent to the genre has been sweetened with warm strings, peppery piano and a basic sense of decency making a potentially samey framework heavily lush. Non-believers, skip to when the drums and piano come in at 28 minutes, you'll see.
