Sofia Coppola’s New Movie and the Return of Stephen Dorff

June 15, 2010

Last time we spotted Stephen Dorff he was stumbling around the Standard Hotel in New York with an empty champagne glass in hand, and in the new movie Somewhere he plays Johnny Marco a bad-boy actor stumbling through a life of excess at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. Capitalizing on sweet art-imitating-life moments, the first glimpses of Sofia Coppola's new release went live yesterday, and the film is set to drop this December. Elle Fanning plays Dorff's precocious 11-year-old daughter, who shows up on his doorstep unexpectedly—cue father-daughter bonding montage—so basically the overarching autobiographical thread leads us right back to Sofia. Coppola has roped in her hubbie's band Phoenix to help with the soundtrack, and from what we can tell so far, there's also an achingly gentle demo version of The Strokes' "I'll Try Anything Once" on there too.
