If you’ve ever been to New York City, chances are pretty good you’ve heard Hypnotic Brass Band, the sprawling group of brothers—sons of the legendary Philip Cohran—who play in Union Square, on the subway, anywhere. In the past year or two, they’ve retired from their street serenades to focus on recordings. Their new EP Heritage is comprised of covers—Art of Noise, Jay-Z, Fela Kuti and, maybe most fittingly, Outkast. “Spottieottiedopalicious,” from Aquemini, is one of Andre and Big Boi’s most classic songs, based on horn bombast that Hypnotic Brass quadruple with their big numbers.
