Never would have thought to make this comparison before, but solo dudes making bedroom jams is a lot like rappers making anything. It’s usually most fun at its rawest, and everyone has a tendency to perform with a live band when they’ve decided they’ve “made it.” Sometimes it’s cool, but a lot of the time it’s like, Yeah The Roots are cool and Jay-Z is cool and “Big Pimpin” is a great song, but can’t we just hear Timbaland’s beat in its original form? ANYWAY! This is one of those exceptions to the rule (um, kinda like when we first heard Jay do “Big Pimpin” with The Roots). His Clancyness—who you may recognize from other posts on this blog—has got an entire band with multiple guitars and strings and drums and the whole deal. A Classic Education are putting out an EP on Lefse very soon.

The “coolness” of the song (the somewhat mellow yet upbeat vibe) keeps me interested enough to listen.
Would have to hear more from them before deeming myself a fan or paying to see them live.

I’ve been a fan for two years. To me they are The Shins of Italy. Every song they have put out is good. One of my new favorite bands and I look forward to every release. They are great to see live. I’ve seen them twice already.
Their older songs are amazing, and the new songs I’ve heard so far, like Gone To Sea, are even better, can’t wait to hear a full album.x
