Phoenix have become one of the biggest bands in the world by doing their own thing, and hoping that people like it. We do. They’ve earned their success by proving that pop audiences don’t have to be pandered to (see: “Lisztomania”), and “highbrow” listeners still just wanna dance sometimes (see: “1901″). Love those guys.
Phoenix = Music
Easy
Some of Phoenix’s tracks are just perfect for opening set songs for DJs, and the remixes of their hits sound fantastic too.
That album made a summer that was tense and horrible before it came out, much more livable thereafter. They’re life-upgraders.
Phoenix is what “pop music” SHOULD sound like. Nowawaydays, oldtimers talk about the music of their generation. Phoenix is one of those bands that will represent our generation’s sound, in the future(in my opinion). It would be dope to one day be able to tell my future musichead about the time I saw Phoenix in NYC.
I first saw Phoenix for the first time over a year ago in a small sweaty DC rock club that was packed to the brim with all kinds of good folks. We all bonded over the smooth guitar licks, killer drums, and the sweet sound of Thomas Mars’ voice. By the end of the show, the room was about 120 degrees, everyone was soaked to the bone with sweat, but it felt like we all just finished having the best sex of our lives.
I’ve seen the band several times since then, and the venues may have gotten bigger, but the feeling stays the same. One of my Phoenix dreams recently came true by hearing them play a French song, so I’d love to have another come true by seeing them at Madison Square Garden.

i need something to do on the night my morning jacket aren’t playing
They’re one of the few bands I’ve been able to continuously listen to for years and yet when one of their songs comes on the radio, it’s like I’m hearing it for the first time…still get that same rush and feel like doing nothing but dancing. They’re also 4 of the most humble & sincere ‘rock stars’, if you will, around.
They are just so damn charming. They make pop sound like ice cream.
the first time i listened to phoenix, i was a freshman in college and alphabetical had just come out; i can truly say that this is when my love affair began. fast forward a few years later to the rock and roll hotel in DC which is where i finally got to see them perform live. managing to get tickets to this sold out show to see a band entirely too big to play this small of a venue was a moment in and of itself, but the show surpassed any idea i had about how good they would sound live. it was that night that i knew they would forever be one of my all-time favorite bands. with every album, they only get better & truly build upon what they’ve already created. i love that they have their own distinctive sound & that they are finally getting the recognition they deserve here in the states. i’ve been fortunate enough to have seen them many other times since that show at the rock and roll hotel & honestly, i walk away loving them more. it doesn’t matter whether we’re in an arena, a sweaty packed venue or on the lawn at lollapalooza, their show gives me goosebumps. i feel young & alive; a feeling we all know is fleeting. having the opportunity to see them in one of the world’s greatest venues would be amazing, but meeting them would simply change my life. to be able to shake their hands & thank them for they’ve given me, i would do just about anything for that.
i love them because i listen to consolation prizes whenever good things happen.
I’ve been a huge fan of Phoenix since 2003 when I first discovered United and Alphabetical, and I traveled to Los Angeles to see them perform at the Troubadour in 2004. I instantly fell in love with Phoenix and their live performance, and knew that they were here to stay in the long run. Their albums were in constant rotation and when It’s Never Been Like That was released I definitely heard some change, but it was amazing change! Songs like “Rally” and “Consolation Prizes” are still two of my favorite songs of all time! It wasn’t until Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix came out that I realized that wow, Phoenix is absolutely my favorite band ever and will always be!
From then on, I never missed a Phoenix show. I saw them at The Warfield, The Fillmore, The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, and at the Outside Lands Music Festival. If I could see them again real soon I would because I am going through a Phoenix withdrawal especially since I know they won’t be performing in the states again after these next few months. I NEED THIS WIN! I NEED TO SEE THEM LIVE AGAIN PLEASE! I am more than willing to travel far and wide to see them. I almost cried when I saw a video of Phoenix performing “Love For Granted” at one of their most recent Southern California shows because that is the one song that I would definitely bawl my eyes out if it was ever performed at a Phoenix show I was at. Actually, I would just cry my eyes out if I saw them again. There’s definitely something nostalgic about your favorite band performing an old slow song that will make you cry and reminisce about your discovery of them in the past and all the times you listened to them or saw them perform, and overall your devotion to them as a fan. The lyrics, chords, Thomas’ voice etc. are absolutely perfect! I have yet to meet all of Phoenix and I want to tell them that they are probably the most genuine and sweetest artists in the entertainment industry today. I want to tell Phoenix that they have absolutely changed my life and whenever I need a boost or when I am down, their music brings me back up like no other! Phoenix is irreplaceable to me!
If I could see Phoenix and meet them in New York, my life would be complete!!! And of course, I would owe it all to you FADER!
Medical spa menus vary, but you can usually get also get medical spa treatments like laser treatments , laser hair removal, IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments, microdermabrasion, photofacials, injectables like Botox and fillers, competitive chemical peels and skin stiffening.
Very rarely can a band, the instant you hear their music, take you to another place altogether. When I listen to their music, Im in an open top double decker bus riding around Paris, or dancing with the one I love underneath the Eiffel Tower.
I’ve never seen them live, but I imagine they have that rare ability to make even the most grandiose venue in MSG feel like an intimate personal show.
Yeah, so la blogotheque definitely placed some of those images from paragraph one in my head. But its the truth.
I know you’ll probably pick Bert Lochte (they guy above me) to go, seeing as his argument employed all the logos, ethos and pathos he knows. but please don’t dis-cour dis-cou dis-cour dis-courage me. <– yeah, i did that
If I’m on the T and some loud crazy man is shouting, I can always turn up Phoenix and i’m worlds away. Their music is phenomenal and they incorporate not only upbeat components, but they make you move with the music, you pause when they pause, and they leave you begging for more. I would love to see these guys live and catch them raw and in their element. If the studio stuff is this good, you know the live version is next level.
wolfgang amadeus got me laid by a vegan cock-hating lesbian(that’s a tough). made me look pretty cool, that’s why i love them.
Phoenix is an awesome band because the music they make is genderless, colorless, its just good music. I remember the first time i heard them, the song 1901 was playing at my job….and i went around and asked everyone who is this? who is this? and nobody could tell me. A week later i caught the song on the Cadillac commercial, found the commercial and went on the hunt for the group. Finally i found the group, than the album, and purchased the vinyl copy, a week later i got the vinyl from amazon. One of the best purchases i ever made, so anyways once i got it, i played it for my friends and it instantly became a summer favorite for us(we even made a re-cap video of our time at the AGENDA tradeshow using their song). Now the catchy part is my friends aren’t really as musically diverse as i’am…put it to you this way, their mostly hip-hop heads, but phoenix had the ability to break them out of that mold into a whole new genre. I can’t think of many groups of who that ability, so like i said they’re my favorite because they can make you love their music no matter what color you are, what background come from, it doesn’t matter. Good music speaks to us all
Why do I love this band? They were the soundtrack my coming out of the incapacitating malaise and all-consuming anxiety of law school and studying for the bar. This band made me remember to forget things like torts, contracts, equities, remedies, and deadlines in the best possible way. Also, this band has 4 attractive men and, having just come out of three years of law school, that is something that I could stand to see a little more of.
Because they’ve remained blissfully unselfconscious and have never kowtowed to genericness.
AWESOME NEW ARTIST!

I want to see them because I’ve been to Phoenix. I like Phoenix the city and the band So that is technically three reasons.
I think Phoenix are a very unique musical group. I like there style. I love music any kind, and there are great
<3
This contest sounds really unbelievable! Phoenix is one of my favorite bands because unlike a bunch of other, flash in the pan, bloghype artists (that we all know and appreciate), they’ve been consistently releasing amazing material since 2000. It would be so cool to see them at Madison Square Garden with the Dirty Projectors, and then at a FUSE taping earlier in the month?!! I can’t wait to see them bring it down with the Wolfgang Amadeus material! It’s gonna be a really special show. I can’t imagine what they have in store for NYC!
I love Phoenix because my wife kept playing Lisztomania until I had no choice but to enjoy it.
One of my faves. Was hoping to get tix to the Hollywood Bowl show but had to work at the flea market selling hot dogs the days the tix went on sale. and my wife took it upon herself to “decide” not to buy tix for the show. Would love to finally get to see them in my hometown!
I love them because they sound like nothing else and are one of the most original rock bands right now. Also, they sounded flawless when they performed on SNL last year.
Phoenix is tight because both my mom and I can enjoy them and not feel awkward about it. Plus, they’re making France cool again.
They’re pop, they’re rock, they’re dance, they’re immediate, they’re avant garde, they’re veterans, they’re fresh, they’re in with hollywood royalty, they’re undenuably french, they’re unpretentious, they’re not great looking, they’re cool and I’ve never seen them, so give a 6 year fan the chance to hang with them. P.S. My wife would be very happy w/me if I won
Because their last two albums define summer in the best possible way –
It’s never been like that it’s never been like that it’s never been like that it’s never been like that it’s never been like that it’s never been like that it’s never been like that it’s never been like that oh!
Phoenix’s music helped me get through the roughest time of my life. I had gotten out an abusive relationship and lost my job all at the same time. My sister played me some of their music and I felt my spirits instantly lift. They are the soundtrack from getting my life back on track. I decided to go back to school and even take my lifelong trip to London. I was able to to see them there and is one of the best time of my life. I recently graduated and working on a bachelors degree. Listening to their music has helped gain my strength back to pursue my dreams. Even If I don’t win and they read this I will happy for them to know that their music changed my life.
thank you

Before Phoenix, bands were just something I listened too. After listening to Phoenix for quite a while now, I still find it amazing what their music can do to you. Listening to them paint a picture with sound is true zen.
This past summer, while playing the last song of their concert, granted this was their 3rd encore, Phoenix called everyone up on stage to dance. It was incredibly surreal, being up on stage, and then high-fiving Thomas and Deck, plus some of their stage crew.
Watching interviews and reading about how their unique recording process works is something I would definitely recommend to all Phoenix lovers.
I am utterly fascinated by these guys, they have really made an impression upon my life.
Thanks.
I´m really far from Phoenix. I live in Buenos Aires Argentina and i took my hollidays that week just to go to New York and see them for the first time in my life. I found out that my credit card can´t buy the tickets from here so i´ll have to get em when im there which is a really dangerous thing.
Talking about love? a guy going from south america to new york just to see a band (taking the responsability that he might not get the tickets).
I need those please!
thanks!
I was at Bonnaroo with my best friend 2 years ago, when phoenix played at one of the tents. We were with all of our friends at phish, but we weren’t really feeling it. My friend just said, come with me we are going to phoenix, you are gonna love it. So we get there and everyone is waiting around anxiously to come on. When they get on everyone was all excited and the guy behind us was really into, singing ALL the words to every song. It was pretty amazing. Then they were played on all of my playlists for the next few months, especially wolfgang songs. I still play them in my car to celebrate a good day.
My first Phoenix experience and I fell in love.
I first heard Phoenix in ‘Lost in Translation.’ I became a bit obsessed. I fell in love with Phoenix for a few reasons. I love Thomas Mars’s lyrics and vocals. I spent about a 3 weeks actually writing down, and learning the lyrics, so that when I see them live I’ll be able to sign word for word. (Not an easy task) The guitar work is also exquisite. If I could actually play guitar Chris M. would be the guitarist I would try to emulate. Lastly, I love the fact that when you hear Phoenix you automatically want to dance. If I was to see them live I promise nobody in the crowd would it enjoy more then me. I will sing, dance, clap, jump, scream, and keep my fingers crossed for ‘Playground Love’. Thanks Fader.
Phoenix changes my life one song at a time. They make me feel alive, innocent, idyllic, and everything in between. This is music that touches my soul.
Phoenix comes out with the kind of songs that grab you. You can hear a 30 second clip in a commercial, an edited version in a movie, or the whole thing on the radio, but you’re immediately pulled in to their music. I was happily surprised one day to find that I had a song of theirs I liked from a free iTunes sampler, and from there I became a fan! October 20th is my birthday, so it’d be great to celebrate it at MSG!
I love Phoenix because they transcend musical boundaries and soothe my soul. Their music constantly reminds me of why I love rock and roll, because sometime it can really surprise you and does not have to be hard and gritty to enjoy and rock out to. Plus the fact that they’re quintessentially French in every regard (they’re cool, yet intelligent, but not totally pretentious) aside from the fact they sing in English, only makes them even more hip. But the maine reason I love Phoenix is that when I listen to their music no matter what mood I’m in, it makes me feel happy, which is why I have recommended them or played them for almost everyone I know, because it inevitably has the same effect on them… Even if I don’t win this contest, I’m just glad I got to share why I love these guys.
phoenix creates music that i dance, sing and have sex to … complete win
