Lights Out on Kanye West: Epilepsy Inducing Vid Pulled from Youtube

February 24, 2011

Earlier this week, we outlined the plagiarism allegations against Kanye West's new "All of the Lights" video, which bore an uncanny resemblance to Gaspar Noé's Enter the Void title sequence. We called it "epilepsy-inducing," an off-hand, post-Pokémon catch-all for those videos that broadcast too many colors, but its sudden YouTube disappearance suggests we might've been on to something. Apparently, since its release, epilepsy advocacy groups have been calling for the video's removal, citing a Cambridge Research Systems study that found the flashing in "All of the Lights" to be literally seizure-inducing. There has been no official statement from either Kanye or Youtube, but UK officials have banned it from television, so until we hear otherwise we're blaming brains.
