Video: The Wake, “Crush the Flowers”

March 09, 2011

Crossing time and space with this one, but everything feels super here, three decades and an ocean focused like a pin prick fired from the blonde's despair-stare. Portland's Wooden Lens produced the video (in the year 2011) with footage from Bille August's 1984 Danish coming-of-age film Tro, håb og kærlighed (set in the year 1963), to promote Brooklyn's Captured Tracks label's upcoming reissuing of two rare singles from Glasgow's The Wake (self-released and on Sarah Records in 1982 and 1989), accompanied by new covers of the band by Beach Fossils (Brooklyn again) and Wild Nothing (Virginia). Those are the facts of the thing; the degree of your melancholy is up to you.
